Grampian 50+

Outdoor and social activities for the over 50s

Grampian 50+ is an association of 46 walking groups across Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray.

Groups organise their own walks. Some walks are local while others are further afield and make use of public transport, minibus or private cars.

A committee of volunteers organises opportunities for all members to meet and mingle. These include walking days, training sessions, holidays and other events which may involve walks, social and craft activities or visits to local sites of interest.

25th Anniversary Conference

To celebrate 25 years of the Network, a conference was held at the Beach Ballroom on 20th November. Cameron McNeish gave an inspirational talk and there were presentations from Age Scotland and the Bothy. The afternoon began with a seated meditation session before breaking out into a series of workshops, including keep fit for walking, use of a defibrillator, Xmas crafts and many more. The afternoon finished with a sing along and all agreed that the food provided by the Beach Ballroom was excellent. Laura from ldmphysiotherapy has kindly supplied the an exercise sheet which can be downloaded here. STV were present and we had a slot on the evening news that showcased the event.

Summer Saunters

This was a week of walks celebrating the availability of a range of routes for all abilities across our Network Region. Members enjoyed the chance to meet folk from other clubs, ending with light refreshments, thankfully with the weather being kind that week! You took some great photos of the walks, thank you all for sharing them. Thanks must also go to all the folk who helped to recce the walks, to be leaders and back markers and to the caterers who supplied us so well.

Spring Fling

The 2023 Spring Fling was held at Inverurie Academy on 13th April. The event was well attended by nearly 200 Network members from across the Grampian area who enjoyed a wide range of activities. There were walks in the local area, taking in Keith Hall, the Inverurie Canal, Daviot Woods and other local sites. Some folk went on visits to the Heritage Centre or the Men’s Shed while others participated in activities such as 10 pin bowling or seated yoga. Also on offer were creative activities such as mosaic making, printing, cooking, patchwork and spinning. Feedback has been positive about the event and the delicious pieces on offer; out thanks to everyone involved in organizing the event.
